The Sydney Masonic Centre (SMC) is Sydney’s first propose built Conference Centre, located in the heart of the City of Sydney at 66 Goulburn Street. The SMC has a rich heritage and history amongst the City’s conference and meetings landscape. The Centre hosts in excess of 700 events a year and welcomes approximately 200,000 guests and delegates through the doors annually. The Centre offers a full range of services including sales and events management, in house catering and audio visual services and more.
The SMC is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar transformation due for completion mid-2019, adding the already impressive array of public spaces and meeting rooms. In preparation for the reopening in May 2019, the SMC is looking to recruit an Audio Visual Manager to join the team.
The SMC Audio Visual Manager will be responsible for both the sales and operational delivery of Audio Visual Services for the Centres client events.
The SMC is currently upgrading its entire fleet of technical production equipment including projection, audio, lighting, rigging and control systems – everything is new. The Audio Visual Manager will have full ownership and accountability for the sales, operation, management and maintenance of this inventory.
The ideal candidate must be passionate about AV and production, and, be ready for the next exciting step in their career. You will have sales experience or exposure to the sales process and will have worked at a senior or specialist technician level in the corporate events landscape. You must have a solid understanding and skills base in conferencing as this is the day to day core business. Event theming is a new growth area for the Centre so experience in theming and design will be a major advantage for the right candidate. WHS knowlwedge and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively is a must. Formal training and graduate qualifications will be viewed favourably.
A typical day might be meet and greets first up in the morning, sales site inspections mid-morning and after lunch, preparing and sending out quotes then briefing the evening set up team for the next day’s events. Same again next day, with a fully themed dinner for 350 pax as well. You will also be responsible for recruiting and managing casual and contract AV staff.
This position is not for the light hearted as you will need to be organised, resilient, well trained, creative and resourceful. In return you will work with a supportive and committed team of venue management professionals all working towards the same goal.
