Advanced Live Sound Mixing
Modern consoles are now usually not recording or live sound specific. But they once were! Because we are at the changeover era from analogue to digital consoles, sound operators and engineers are faced with a bewildering variety of console types, brands, and methods of use.
This Unit Course is both RECORDING and LIVE SOUND specific!
During this course you will be exposed to and taught on DIFFERENT consoles, analogue and digital. You can accumulate time on consoles, and can do so in our mix room outside lesson hours at no additional cost while you are enrolled.
Sample consoles: Yamaha DM 2000, Midas Verona 40, Soundcraft MH 3, Allen and Heath ML 5000, Innovason Sy 40. Maybe even a Yamaha PM5D or PM1D! We have lots of console friends here at Julius Media, because we also publish CX magazine.
You will learn:-
- Signal flow through each console, including auxiliary and group buss assignments
- First entry: all about PreAmps
- How to operate various parametric and quasi-parametric (sweep) equalisation (EQ) stages
- Tricks of the trade, shortcuts, what to do when you run out of channels!
- How to insert, where to insert, when to insert, what to insert
- Cabling and connecting outboard to different consoles
- Mixing essentials, what sounds right, what sounds wrong
This course assumes prior knowledge. You need to be either already working or mixing, or have successfully completed our Live Sound Basics, or another suitable audio course or units somewhere else, like JMC, SAE or TAFE.
Shown below: Our January class. They learned the Midas Verona, Allen and Heath 5000 (shown), and the Yamaha PM5D.
