Stage Lighting Basics

Stage Lighting Basics is an intensive 3 day course. It is designed to take a beginner from the start to having a working understanding of stage lighting. This is part of our Certificate III Live Production, Theatre and Events (Technical Operations) course.

INTRODUCTION TO LIGHTING PRODUCTION 

The role of lighting systems and the lighting crew in production.  Equipment recognition, care and maintenance.  

SYSTEM TOPOLOGY, PATCHING AND SETUP  

General system topology, correct rigging procedures, patching. Lighting Control Systems. 

POWER AND DMX OVERVIEW    

Power loading and different types of power outlets.  DMX basics.  

CONSOLE OPERATION 

Patching and operation of a typical 2-preset desk.  Introduction to programmable consoles.      

COLOUR IN LIGHTING        

FOCUSING LIGHTS

INTRODUCTION TO MOVING LIGHTS AND EFFECTS 

Introduction to moving lights.  Fog and haze effects.  Common effects and accessories. Introduction to moving lights     

WORKING TO A LIGHTING PLAN           

Working to a plan – rigging, patching and focusing.  Different lighting angles and their appearance.         

AT THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE AWARDED THE UNIT:

CUELGT09B : Apply general knowledge of lighting to work acivities

This Unit can be applied against the Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events (Tech Ops) CUE 30203
