With 300 crew and a growing network, Canada's Solotech appears to have designs on an Australian branch which would offer sound lights and vision up to concert sized. The firm has grown steadily by offering full service where one contract provides all concert production. They are able to negotiate one price where usually rigging, sound, lights, video and staging are separate contractors. Having one account and one integrated crew makes for efficiencies, they say. Solotech are an aggressive player in the concert touring market and are rumoured to have up to nine tours scheduled for Australia and New Zealand in the next year. They have already toured production and crew through the region. While nothing has been announced, the firm are known to favour a permanent base. Norwest Productions deny they are in discussions to sell to Solotech, other than having general communication with the firm. "If I can win the Vancouver Olympic's in their backyard, then I've got nothing to worry about if they open up here", said Norwest CEO Chris Kennedy. |
