COEMAR DESISTI AUSTRALIA IN RECEIVERSHIP PDF Print E-mail

After 18 years the Melbourne based lighting importer and special projects firm Coemar DeSisti Australia has become a victim of the recession. “Early this year major projects and many small projects were just cancelled outright”, CEO Peter Kemp told CX. “The project market just died, it caught up with us through totally cancelled projects”.

He preferred not to elaborate on which projects the firm lost. The firm relied on major projects ahead of its bread and butter business, importing and reselling lighting.

The firm was a three way partnership between Peter Kemp, the Italian manufacturer Coemar, and another Italian manufacturer DeSisti. CX asked Peter what was his partner's reaction. “With todays economic situation I believe they have their own problems right now”, Peter Kemp said, “and they’ve always left Australia alone to do our own thing as such”.

Patterson Consulting was appointed as receivers on May 13th, and are seeking a buyer for the business as a going concern. This is not unrealistic – in its time Coemar DeSisti ran significant projects across Asia, the likes of which will return. While major projects are an enormous challenge and can be highly lucrative, more emphasis on smaller scale work and product distribution could have made a difference in hindsight.

“How do you feel?”, CX asked Peter Kemp. “Obviously not great after building this from nothing 18 years ago”, he said.
