New Blacksheep company not affected by $2.5 million collapse

The liquidator to the former Blacksheep Productions business (not the new business which is currently trading) has issued a scathing report that reveals excessive losses and mismanagement. Blacksheep is a Sydney based video and audio visual firm with blue chip clients such as Westfield, Macquarie Group and Nestle.

Avid has introduced Digidesign VENUE SC48 selling at $39,995 for small to mid-sized houses of worship, clubs, and corporate A/V companies, as well as touring customers. It is pitched fair and square at Yamaha’s M7CL which itself has been a game changer.

Exciting advances at last for moving lights

Imagine a lighting fixture with a lamp that is rated almost the life of the fixture. This is the tantalizing possibility offered by Robe, the first manufacturer to rush the LIFI lamp to market. LIFI stands for light fidelity lamp, a tiny source with no filament which uses micro waves to create a plasma light source.

Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion is set to join Luna Park and Enmore Theatre as venues with professional concert PA systems installed in house. Jands Production Services will install six V-Dosc boxes per side, plus subs at the 5,000 seat Hordern which will in turn offer promoters the convenience of a pre-installed system.

As organisers lash CX.

Last issue CX reported on industry reaction to three trade shows in Sydney in July. Given the high stakes, we had some reaction. SMPTE have responded strongly, and Integrate cancelled their visitor advertising campaign in CX. In July SMPTE and Integrate will stage their Sydney trade shows and before they open, both show organisers have banked their profits.

COEMAR DESISTI AUSTRALIA IN RECEIVERSHIP

After 18 years the Melbourne based lighting importer and special projects firm Coemar DeSisti Australia has become a victim of the recession. “Early this year major projects and many small projects were just cancelled outright”, CEO Peter Kemp told CX. “The project market just died, it caught up with us through totally cancelled projects”.

QANTAS prepare rude shock for bands

It was until recently a simple $10 or $20 extra charge to check in a guitar or roadcase when flying around Australia on QANTAS. Bands and crew always chose QF ahead of Virgin Blue because of this. Now the two airlines are charging airfreight rates for excess baggage. Now QANTAS charges $10 per kilo over the standard 23 kg limit, which amounts to about $150 for a guitar in a case.

AC/DC reject line arrays

500,000 tickets sold in 24 hours make AC/DC the most successful touring act in Australian history. Along with Pink’s current 500,000 ticket national tour, the touring business is defying the downturn and supplying work for lots of crew. When AC/DC do the largest venues in Australia next summer, they’ll go back to the future by rejecting a line array PA, since it isn’t loud enough.
