National Broadcast Tech Conference 2012
Written by Julius Grafton
Wednesday, 16 November 2011

CX Roadshow has expanded with a National Broadcast Tech Conference, hosted by John Maizels. The conference will be one of many breakout events held across the one day event in five main capital cities.

Topics to be covered at the Broadcast Tech conference include Broadcast Loudness, which has become controversial due to moves to legislate the 'volume' of advertising on TV. Special guest Thomas Lund

will describe how international broadcast is moving towards loudness measurement and normalization for more predictable control of audio in DTV. Thomas will present the guidelines from ITU-R BS.1770, and will describe transparent normalization of commercials, differences between OP-59, ATSC A/85 and R128, and EBU’s strategy for cross-platform broadcast is discussed. This session will demystify LUFS, LKFS, LU, Program Loudness, Loudness Range, Max Loudness, Short-term Loudness and True-peak level. If you are involved in broadcasting, live sound, post production this is a topic that you cannot afford to misunderstand.

ENTECH 2011 REPORT
Written by Julius Grafton
Thursday, 21 July 2011

They said it wouldn't happen. After the worst misinformation campaign, the biennial show opened on a grey Tuesday and shortly after the rains came. It almost always rains on ENTECH - of ten events seven have been wet. But this one was different.

Scheduled as usual in February 2010 that event was called off with the tail end of the GFC and the new competition of the Integrate expo already held in Sydney. The Integrate team scheduled again and again, running their show each year and attracting a good number of exhibitors with discounts and magazine advertising bundles swaying the savvy. But they didn't crack the lighting or the venue market in any serious way, and these were the mainstay of the 2011 ENTECH just concluded.
